今年農曆新年好友到我家拜年，帶來兩盒Krispy Kreme的甜甜圈作為手信。這家店在溫哥華三角洲市開業時曾引起一場哄動，排隊購買的人潮不斷，成為當年城中熱話。Krispy Kreme是一間美國甜甜圈大型連鎖店，也是美國第二大甜甜圈食品店。其創辦人Vernon Rudolph從一位來自新奧爾良的法國裔廚師Joe LeBeau買下一份甜甜圈秘方以及用“Krispy Kreme”的名稱登記專利。並於1937年在美國北卡羅來納州的Winston-Salem開設首間甜甜圈工場，將生產的甜甜圈批發給雜貨店出售。後來由於越來越多人希望從工場直接購買新鮮出爐的甜甜圈，Vernon Rudolph決定在工場直接售賣甜甜圈給顧客，現址亦成為該公司總部所在

在二十世紀四十年代開始，Krispy Kreme開始甜甜圈的機械化量產，令產品更趨至完美。在六十年代，Krispy Kreme業務在美國東南部迅速發展。奈何Vernon Rudolph於1973年8月16日去世後，甜甜圈的業務開始放慢，後來更被Beatrice Food收購。直到1982年，Krispy Kreme終被早期的經營者購回，其業務於1990年代起擴展至紐約市及加州。在21世紀初，其業務開始擴展至海外，包括加拿大、墨西哥、英國、澳大利亞、東南亞地區、日本、南韓及台灣等地。現今加拿大共有10間Krispy Kreme分店，但有9間都開設在東岸的Toronto和Quebec，而溫哥華三角洲市是西岸唯一的分店啊！
